Two Rivers Insurance Services issued the following announcement.
Driver safety should always be a top priority - especially on Halloween night! According to a recent study by Safe Kids Worldwide, on average, children are more than twice as likely to be hit by a car and killed between 4:00 pm and 8:00 pm on Halloween than at any other time of the year.
Do your part, behind the wheel, to keep the witches, ghosts and goblins safe with these three driver safety tips.
If you are driving at night on Halloween, pay extra close attention to your speed. We suggest slowing your speed by at least five miles per hour in residential neighborhoods to give yourself extra time to react to children who may be running across the street. You can never be too cautious during a busy night like Halloween!
Keep Your Eyes Moving
Keep a watchful eye out for children crossing the street, walking on roads and standing on medians and curbs. Odds are, they’re not paying attention to traffic, they’re thinking about candy! The best way to keep your full attention on your surroundings is to eliminate all distractions – hang up the phone and turn the music down.
Watch For Dark Costumes
Dark costumes can pose a visibility challenge to drivers on Halloween night. Do your best to make your car stand out by keeping your headlights on at all times. If your children are dressing up to go trick-or-treating, send them with glow sticks or a flashlight so they can do their part to help drivers see them better.
