Upper Iowa University issued the following announcement on May 11.
The Peacock outdoor track and field team wrapped up a weekend in Duluth, Minn. at the Northern Sun Conference Championships. Upper Iowa placed twelfth with 16 points and six All-NSIC performers in four events.
Brinn Grunder grabbed her second NSIC title of the season, this time in the shot put. Grunder claimed the outdoor title with a mark of 15.14 meters grabbing 10 points for the team. During the indoor championships, Grunder won the weight throw title with a throw of 14.37 meters. Grunder also placed in the hammer throw posting the sixth best toss at 50.39 meters to grab three more points for UIU. Grunder earned two All-NSIC honors for her performance. Both marks reset program records for UIU.
Cassiddy Wilson also claimed a pair of All-NSIC honors in the 400 meter hurdles and as part of the 4x400 meter relay team. Wilson placed eighth in the 400 meter hurdles scoring a point for the Peacocks after crossing in a time of 1:04.14. The sophomore ran the third leg of UIU's 4x400 relay team that placed seventh. Breyann Hill, Jenna Ross, Wilson and Kenzie Soeken combined to finish the race in a time of 3:58.79. UIU grabbed their final two points of the championships with two points after the relay.
Caitlin Himes nearly added another point for Upper iowa in the discus, but came up just shy placing ninth with a mark of 44.40 meters. The eighth place throw in the event was just.08 meters farther.
Hill and Ross both ran well in the 400 meter race placing 16th and 17th, respectively, with times of 58.92 and 59.50 seconds.
Ross also ran the second leg of the 4x100 meter relay for the Peacocks. Kortney Lightfoot, Ross, Allison Trenkamp and Erica Kelly placed 11th in a time of 49.96 just 1.5 seconds shy of eighth place and a point.
Serianna Dehmlow placed 16th in the 10K thanks to her time of 42:16.57. Soeken tied for 16th in the high jump at 1.52 meters and 26th in the long jump with a mark of 5.04 meters.
Bridgett Madden placed 22nd in the hammer throw; the senior recorded a mark of 42.25 meters.
Gabbie Mohs placed 22nd in the javelin with a throw of 27.82 meters, while Cami Pickett competed as well in the javelin, but fouled on her attempts.
The University of Mary ran away with the conference title with 202.5 points, while Augustana University finished second with a point total of 117. Minnesota State University, Mankato rounded out the top three with a score of 100.
