Janice Maxine Caputo, 80, of West Des Moines, passed away while surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, July 2, 2019. She passed away due to complications of heart disease.
Janice was born November 6, 1938, in Harlan, KS, to Paul and Velma (Clapham) Buttermore.
Janice worked as a federal postal employee for the USPS, retiring in 2004. She was a member of West Des Moines United Methodist Church and a supporter of the ASPCA and other animal welfare organizations.
She was a true animal lover and contributed generously to their care and prevention of animal cruelty. She had many beloved pets throughout her life; those of special mention are: an Affenpinscher named Homey and two Shih Poos named Nicky and Joey. Her pets were like her children and she took them everywhere she went. Jan was a pianist and a singer and she enjoyed performing traditional hymns with family. She was very close to her parents and was a devoted caregiver for her aging mother after her father passed away. She enjoyed family reunions and gatherings. Jan loved to laugh with her nieces and nephews.
Janice is survived by her siblings, Ruth Edwards of Fort Myers, FL, Gary P. (Linda) Buttermore of Boone, IA, Kristine Buttermore of Weslaco, TX; nieces, Madison (Carolyn Barlean) Buttermore, Marsha (Todd) Christ, Elizabeth (Chris) Bolinger, Jennifer (Kevin) Walker; nephews, Garin (Kristten) Buttermore, Shelley (Mamie) Buttermore, Rod (Alex) Buttermore, Paul (Kari) Edwards; as well as many great and great great nieces and nephews, many beloved family and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Paul Edward Buttermore; mother, Velma Maxine Buttermore; brother-in-law, William Edwards; and niece, Allison K. Backstrom.
